This is what emerges from a study released earlier this year by the <strong>Incentive Research Foundation (IRF)<\/strong>. Despite new Covid variants popping up and the international situation causing unrest and uncertainty, people and business seem to have collectively decided that the wait is over. We want to travel and we want to go back to celebrating the joy of travelling. Restrictions are mostly manageable after all and most people are used to security protocols by now and don&#8217;t mind getting tested or wearing masks. Now more than ever, travel packages are proving a much more effective incentive even than cash. This branch of the industry, however, is changing and t<strong>rying to meet new challenges, as the whole idea of travelling seems to have changed<\/strong>. What new challenges are companies facing when redesigning their incentive travel policies? The answer may vary from Country to Country, based on unemployment figures, travel restrictions and general trends in the travel industry, but a few shared elements can be identified.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Sales are no longer the only department getting travel incentives<\/h3>\n<p>While numerous incentive programs have customarily centered around top employees and executives, companies working on their incentive travel policies are presently searching for ways of expanding the targeting of their programmes beyond the sales department, allowing employees from other branches to access (and compete for) travel incentives. The rational is simple: travelling is a powerful motivator and the benefits in terms of productivity are tangible: why should they be limited to one department, rather than extend to the whole company?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19066\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.smarteventi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/incentive-travel-policies-programmi-incentive-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"mks_button mks_button_medium rounded\" style=\"color: #000000; background-color: #fff100!important; border-color: #FFFFFF !important;\" href=\"#contattaci\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Plan an incentive trip with the help of a team of professionals: call us now!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How the pandemic prompted companies to change incentive travel policies (in unexpected way)<\/h3>\n<p>During the pandemic, there was no travelling. For almost a year (longer, in some Countries) there were also no office work, no hanging out with colleagues and no in-person meetings. Many companies started investing in employee wellness to counter-balance remote-working burnout, anxiety and isolation.<strong> Some of them started organising virtual tours and events, in lieu of travel incentives and team building activities.<\/strong> This led to discussions about travelling and the sharing of incentive travel experiences, which unexpectedly extended the motivating power of such incentives beyond the categories of employees that had been enjoying them in the past. When travel bans were lifted, many companies found it natural to extend such benefits to broader tiers of their hierarchy.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19064\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.smarteventi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/incentive-travel-policies-programmi-incentive-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Exclusive experiences are in, group trips are out<\/h3>\n<p>The way we travel, in general, is changing. Incentive travel is no exception: most of us still don&#8217;t feel comfortable in large crowds and group trips tend to be less appealing than solo- or couple-experiences. There is also the issue of cancellations and re-booking: rescheduling a solo-trip due to a temporary travel-ban or health concern is way easier and allows for much greater flexibility than reorganising an incentive travel experience for a large group. Companies, therefore, are changing their incentive travel policies to focus on individual top performers \u2013 regardless of the department they operate in \u2013 rather than rewarding entire teams. Logistics and pricing, however, are not the only elements in play in this shifting of the incentive paradigm: the whole concept of \u201cone size fits all\u201d is being slowly but inexorably dismissed. Companies listen to employee feedback on issues such as the choice between office-based, remote or hybrid working solutions: why should incentive travel policies be any different?
