One of the focal points of Smart Eventi<\/strong>‘s work is to promote sustainable travel and tourism, and as part of this effort, we also plan incentive trips<\/strong><\/a> that consider this factor. As a result, we pay close attention to the issue, and we were very interested to learn that Bergamo, Italy, was given the Urban Award<\/strong> of Anci for its commitment to sustainable mobility.\u00a0<\/span>A new and creative gamification project, whose tagline is “The more you pedal, the more you are rewarded,” was particularly successful.<\/p>\n

You get more financial incentives the more you pedal<\/b><\/h3>\n

With this initiative, cities are being encouraged to “pedal” as well as rethink their urban planning, and as a result, incentives for non-automotive modes of transportation are offered.<\/p>\n

The system rewards cyclists based on the distance they ride their bikes, offering rewards like refunds and other incentives<\/strong> on a daily and monthly basis. The trial phase in Bergamo lasted from September to February 2023, but there is talk in various circles about the possibility of extending the service, as it did in Bari, for instance. The Apulian city has in fact confirmed the 2019 pilot project.<\/p>\n

This initiative aims to promote alternative urban mobility, lessen rush-hour car traffic, and reduce air pollution. The use of more environmentally friendly forms of transportation is rewarded with a financial incentive to help achieve these goals, but the advantages go far beyond that.<\/p>\n

A program that promotes the circular economy while assisting local business<\/b><\/h3>\n

In fact, the project involves city merchants as well in order to promote the circular economy and local commerce<\/strong>, for instance by issuing electronic vouchers that can be used at participating city businesses. Another crucial stage in creating a conscience and responsible economy.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

About 5,000 users have participated in the project, who have pedaled over 1.6 million kilometers and received 150 thousand euros in economic incentives. The system has been activated in about 30 cities both in Italy and abroad<\/strong>. Finally, 400 tons of CO2 were saved, which is a significant accomplishment given that we’re talking about sustainability<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rethinking urban travel will benefit everyone<\/b><\/h3>\n

Eventually, this gamification system could be adapted to certify all trips taken using eco-friendly urban transportation options like carpooling<\/strong>, public transportation<\/strong>, bike sharing<\/strong>, and scooters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We’re talking about a model with beneficial and objectively measurable effects as well as a simple but highly effective intuition. Shortly put, the incentives for two-wheeled mobility that this project has put in place can be a key tool for rethinking urban travel.<\/p>\n
