Every April, tens of thousands of industry professionals, press and buyers gather in Milan for two main reasons: to attend, visit or exhibit at the Milan Design Week<\/strong> (without question, the most watched furniture and design event on the planet), and to do the same at the Fuorisalone, which is this city’s true stroke of genius. All the events and emerging brands that don’t feature in the MDW’s official calendar have their own circuit, spreading mostly through the Brera District, and getting as much attention as the main trade show, if not more. Here, brands and designers compete for attention, credibility and meaningful connections, experimenting with unique spaces and formats, enjoying ample creative freedom for the delight and enjoyment of the specialised press.<\/p>\n

For Wilkhahn, the celebrated German furniture manufacturer with a long-standing reputation for considered, ergonomic design, the challenge running from 18th to 27th April was not simply to be present. It was to be present well. That meant finding a venue that could do the work: pull footfall, communicate the brand’s aesthetic intelligence, and function as a genuine meeting point for partners and clients.<\/p>\n

Straightforward enough in theory. Considerably harder in practice, given how fiercely contested Brera real estate<\/strong> becomes the moment design week<\/strong> looms on the horizon.<\/p>\n

The perfect venue to showcase Wilkhahn’s design at Fuorisalone<\/h2>\n

Wilkhahn’s team was looking for a suitably-sized gallery-style venue in Brera<\/strong>, where “suitably-sized” meant both compact enough to concentrate visitor energy and deliver excellent vibes even with smaller crowds. The space also needed to be distinctive enough to command attention from the pedestrian circuit outside and it needed to have street-facing display windows.<\/p>\n

The visual display from the street is, in many ways, the first conversation a brand has with a passing audience during the Design Week, especially for a Fuorisalone event, and Wilkhahn understood that. A space tucked away from the main flow, however beautiful internally, simply wouldn’t serve the purpose.<\/p>\n

Smart Eventi<\/strong><\/a> was brought in to handle the full scope: venue scouting<\/strong>, contract negotiations, security provision<\/a> for three private cocktail evenings, daily cleaning to keep the space looking flawless throughout, and the necessary filming and outdoor advertising permits. A complete brief, requiring both strategic thinking and precise operational management.<\/p>\n

Matching vibes and logistic, at the perfect venue<\/h2>\n

The solution came in the form of a Milan art gallery<\/strong> sitting right in the heart of the Brera District. It ticked every point on the brief without compromise. The compact layout worked in Wilkhahn’s favour, funnelling visitor flow rather than dispersing it. The street-facing windows delivered exactly the kind of presence the brand needed on the Fuorisalone circuit<\/strong>. And the gallery’s inherent atmosphere brought a level of refinement that a standard commercial space could not have replicated at any price.<\/p>\n

There is something that happens when a quality product is shown in a genuinely beautiful setting: the two things read together, each elevating the other. The gallery format felt considered rather than convenient, which aligned perfectly with Wilkhahn’s brand positioning.<\/p>\n

Smart Eventi managed every operational detail across the ten days. Security for the three private cocktail evenings ensured each event ran smoothly and exclusively. We also took care of the general management of the event, making sure the space got cleaned daily, so as to keep it immaculate throughout a busy, high-footfall period, and acquiring the right permits for outdoor advertising, in order to extend the brand’s visibility beyond the gallery walls and into the street circuit itself.<\/p>\n

Three evenings that turned a showroom into a networking hub<\/h2>\n

The private cocktail evenings deserve particular mention. Fuorisalone has a unique charm, due partly to its capacity to compress an extraordinary density of design experts<\/strong>, industry decision-makers<\/strong> into a relatively small area over a handful of days. That concentration creates opportunities for relationship-building that simply don’t exist in the same form at any other point in the calendar, but it also generates a lot of visual, conceptual, and commercial “noise”.
