Themed events are back! 3 ideas for your corporate party

When your boss says the office holiday party will be held at a local bar, you may start thinking about what to wear for that kind of venue. But once you step inside, you’ll realize it’s not just any bar—it’s a “Mad Men”-themed bar complete with sets from the show, costumes from its characters, and even a special menu featuring cocktails served in martini glasses. You may have thought themed parties were out of style in the corporate world, but they’re actually making a comeback as event planners look for ways to create more memorable experiences for their clients.
If you’re thinking about throwing one yourself, there are some things to consider before you begin planning. The theme is almost always going to be the first thing people notice—you can’t just throw up some decorations on the wall and call it a day. Many event planners find that a theme can help add personality to an event as well as tie it all neatly together. But it’s also important that the theme fits the occasion and the audience—a “Gatsby”-themed party might not be appropriate for a charity, just like an Avatar themed one might be the worst possible choice for a strictly formal organisation, such as a bank or a political party. Just as with color schemes and even food choices, choosing a theme needs to be done with an eye toward who will be attending and what company values should be projected. With these caveats in place, here are a few tips for your themed corporate events!
