At Smart Eventi, we are always pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation in the events industry. When a new client approached us with a request for a team-building activity centered around sustainability, we saw it as an opportunity to create something truly unique. Together with our start-up partner, an Italian company specialising in creating design objects and furniture from recycled plastic, we devised a brand new format that perfectly aligned with our client’s goals.
Creating with Purpose: Sustainable Design
“Our goal was to create an activity that not only fostered team collaboration but also showcased the power of sustainability,” says Alessandro Pitzalis, Team Building & Incentive Manager at Smart Eventi. “We wanted to inspire our participants to think creatively about waste and how it can be transformed into something beautiful and functional.”
The activity began by using waste plastic that had been previously shredded, melted, and pressed into large panels of different colours. Participants were divided into groups and given the opportunity to build objects using these recycled plastic sheets and materials provided by our start-up partner.
Encouraging Collaboration and Competition
To add an extra element of challenge and friendly competition, we introduced spot quizzes about recycling. “We wanted to make the experience not just about the entertainment and the creation process, but also about increasing awareness of sustainability practices,” explains Daniele Capogna, CEO of Smart Eventi. “By incorporating these quizzes, teams had the chance to challenge each other and strengthen their knowledge about recycling.”
During the design process, teams also had the chance to choose and blend differently-coloured plastic materials, which were then fused together, pressed, and cooled to form new pieces with unique textures and colours. This allowed participants to showcase their creativity and personal touch in developing their objects.
Celebrating Success and Sustainability
The activity culminated in an exciting presentation of the objects created, where participants could appreciate the different textures designed for each piece. “It was truly inspiring to see the level of creativity and innovation that emerged from this activity,” says Alessandro Pitzalis. “Each object told a story of transformation and sustainability.”
The event concluded with an award ceremony, where teams were recognised for their outstanding designs and commitment to sustainability. It served as a reminder of the importance of sustainable practices and circular economy within every industry.
Conclusion
We succeeded in creating a team-building activity for our client that not only fostered collaboration and competition but also highlighted the importance of sustainability. By repurposing waste plastic into functional objects, we demonstrated the power of creativity and innovation in making a positive impact on the environment. At Smart Eventi, we are proud to be at the forefront of sustainable event experiences, and we look forward to continuing to provide innovative solutions for our clients.
