Accessible events and inclusion: what event planners need to know

eventi accessibili

Nearly everyone has been to a conference with poor access for disabled people. It is not required to be on-trend or politically correct to confront this problem. Forty years ago accessible events were the exception, nowadays, luckily, they are the norm, disabled people are more vocal about their needs and society does more for them. Accessibility is an issue that has been in the mainstream media for a while now. Over recent years, there has been a shift in the way that disability is viewed by the general public which is largely attributed to more disabled people getting involved in activism, social media and the public debate in general. As a planner, making your events accessible should not be about ticking boxes on legal requirements, but making sure you hold space for a diverse audience, adapting your venue and organizational process to the need of your attendees, rather than expecting them to adapt to what you offer.
