How to choose speakers for a virtual event

The uncertain pandemic situation makes it increasingly likely that virtual-only events will be back, alongside hybrid ones, with remote presentations, panels and lectures, speakers connecting from different parts of the world, and no longer geographically constrained audiences. As many have realised over the past two years, the elements that make a virtual event successful are quite different from those we were accustomed to with in-person events. The audience’s attention span is different, it is concentrated in shorter intervals and it is much more difficult to convey complex content in a traditional presentation. Yet there are entertainers and panelists who manage to create exciting and engaging experiences for the audience. Similarly, some speakers who used to do very well at in-person events fail to engage remote audiences. Why?
